We Sold Everything and Moved to Italy. Here's What Nobody Tells You.
The honest version of expat life in southern Italy - from an American mom who actually did it.
What Moving to Italy Actually Looks Like.
Everyone sees the Instagram version of moving abroad. The golden light, the aperitivo, the cobblestone streets. That's all real. So is the paperwork, the language barrier, the moments where you wonder what you've done.
I moved to Ostuni, Puglia with my family 9 months ago. We came for the slower pace, the real food, the culture, and an escape from a life that had started to feel like it was happening to us rather than because of us.
What I didn't expect was how much it would change us - not just our address. My kids are learning Italian by living it. They're navigating a different culture, making friends across a language barrier, becoming more adaptable than I ever could have made them in the suburbs.
I write about all of it. The beautiful parts and the hard parts. The things that surprised us, the mistakes we made, and everything we've learned about building a life in a place that still feels like a dream most mornings.
If you're thinking about moving abroad - or just curious what it actually looks like - you're in the right place.
